Fancy car and bike horns to be thrashed for noise pollution

Noise is undesirable sound and with many vehicle owners making use of harsh and loud horns in their vehicles, the National Green Tribunal has passed an order to curb use of these horns in New Delhi. According to this order, those found with such horns in their vehicles will be prosecuted by the court. To make sure that such horns are done away with, PUC booths will not issue certificates to owners if their car is found to be too noisy.

The order comes after a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in this regard. National Green Tribunal has said that use of these loud horns affects mental development in children; they also cause high blood pressure conditions, hearing impairments and annoy individuals.

In order to make this plan effective, a 24×7 call centre will be set up which will monitor calls relating to such incidents. Traffic police have been directed to confiscate such items within 24 hours of a complaint being lodged. In addition to horns, generators, vehicle exhausts, and religious places will also be considered under this order. Integration of relevant matter pertaining to noise pollution in educational curriculum will be undertaken as per directives issued by the tribunal.
