Ferrari driven by Michael Jackson, up for auction
Barrett Jackson’s Scottsdale in Arizona is putting on auction an exclusive Ferrari Testarossa Spyder, once driven by King of Pop, Michael Jackson. This all black Testarossa will go under the auctioneers hammer this week and the fact that it carries no reserve price needs special mention.
While eager bidders and Michael Jackson fans may lay their bets on this convertible Testarossa, it may be brought to attention that Michael Jackson never really owned this car, but he just drove it for a 1987 Pepsi Commercial called ‘The Chopper’. It is not even a factory original, as Ferrari has never produced a convertible Testarossa, but all said and done, it has held the King of Pop in its luxurious interiors.
Converted at a cost of $40,0000 to a convertible by Richard Straman Company of Costa Mesa in early 1987 for the Pepsi commercial, the Testarossa sports a canvas roof and plastic rear window besides triangular extensions at each side.
Where engine details are concerned, the Testarossa sports a 4.9 liter V12 engine offering 380 bhp. Though a standard Testarossa can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 5.8 seconds and hit a top speed of 289 kmph, this convertible may be a tad slower but was good enough for Michael Jackson to star in the Pepsi campaign as he was seen jumping off a building, hanging onto a helicopter and rappelling down into an alley way after which he jumped into the Testarossa to escape from fans in pursuit.
