BBC Top Gear, the British automobile magazine has crowned the Ferrari F12berlinetta with the ‘Supercar of the Year 2012’ award. Ferrari has always been a Top Gear favorite, taking their tally to 11 in 10 years to receive awards from this noted and very influential auto magazine.

It has been three times that Ferrari has been crowned Supercar of the Year, with its F430 receiving these awards in 2005 followed by 458 Italia in 2009 and now F12berlinetta bagging the same award. Ferrari F12berlinetta’s 6.3-litre V12 engine was also winner of EVO magazine “Engine of the Year” award in November this year and was displayed at the 10th China Guangzhou International Auto Show.

f12berlinetta is the most powerful high performance V12 ever built by Ferrari and made its first public appearance in China earlier, where it received a great deal of attention. The vehicle possesses a 6.3 liter V12 engine producing 729hp and 508 lb/ft torque giving it 120hp more than Ferrari 599 GTB.

The sports car is being launched with lower weight while it can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in 3.1 seconds and reach a top speed of 211 mph+ (335 kmph). Being able to accelerate from 0 to 124 mph in 8.5 seconds means that it is quicker than a McLaren F1 and the company is well aware of the increased demand for luxury and superfast cars in Chinese markets which is why it has showcased the F12berlinetta there.
