Problems detected in the faulty crankshaft have resulted in the Italian supercar manufacturer Ferrari recalling 206 units of their V8 models with immediate effect. Ferrari issued a recall notice so that all owners of such vehicles can bring in their V8 model engines for a free replacement.

As mentioned by Ferrari, these replacements only apply to 206 engines though the company has produced over 13,000 such engines. The fault is due to a machine that finishes these crankshafts which was slightly miscalibrated and hence could cause a problem when these engines were used for high revs. The replacements will be free of charge and will be carried out under warranty in a matter of one or two days.

This defective engine are fitted on certain 2011-12 458 Italia and 2012 MY California vehicles and affects 206 cars out of which 74 are sold in the States. Ferrari who have filed this stipulation with the national Highway Traffic Safety Administration said that they would offer owners three options which would include installation of a new crankshaft and bearings on the V8 engine by an authorized dealer, removal of the engine from the car and repaired by Ferrari North America or a brand new engine that will also be installed by Ferrari North America.

These recalls will be affected immediately.
