Fiat and Suzuki Motor Corporation are expanding their long term business relationship. The new agreement between both auto majors entails the supply of Fiat's 1.3L MultiJet 75hp BS-IV small diesel engine. The small diesel engine is being produced under license by Fiat India Automobiles Limited (FIAL), the JV between Tata Motors and Fiat.
FIAL would now supply up to 100.000 1.3L MultiJet 75hp SDE engines each year to Suzuki's affiliate company Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) beginning January 2012 for 3 years. The Fiat .3L MultiJet 75hp SDE engines will power Suzuki branded vehicles manufactured in the country by MSIL for the Indian auto market.
Production of Fiat 1.3L MultiJet 75hp diesel engines for MSIL will commence in the 4th week of January 2012 at the FIAL Ranjangaon plant near Pune. The new numbers are in addition to the 1.3L MultiJet SDE engines, which are currently licensed by Fiat to be manufactured by Suzuki Powertrain India Limited. The 4 cylinder 1.3L Multijet 75hp BS-IV SDE is a 16V engine that uses Fiat's Mutijet injection technology, which combines performance with low environmental impact, resulting in diesel efficiency and performance in its class.
