Fiat brings ‘By Diesel 500′ and a small car
Fiat has great green plans with a twist. An unlikely partner one may fathom, but they’ve tied up with clothing brand Diesel to bring forward…
This variation will come with a higher price tag than the already available ‘500,’ and the car could hit the Indian auto market as early as next month. You can steal a peek at the ongoing Auto Expo 2010. Since the launch of the ‘500’ back in 2008, the steeply priced car has sold about 55,000 units at 15 lakhs each. The Diesel variation is certainly being bought forward to up the glamour quotient and be attuned to the European sentiment of fashion in the Fiat portfolio. This variant certainly targets the fashion brigade. The car will be imported from India so all those queuing up with have to wait at least 2 months from when they book a car.
Apart from this, Fiat will be collaborating with Tata Motors to develop a small car that’ll be launched as by 2012. Since Tata is their front end distribution partner, they’re taking all the feedback needed for their small car development but tech development will be handle by the company back in Italy to supply for the Indian auto market a much needed small car. The new launch will be similar to the Palio hatchback.
The Fiat and Tata Motors 50:50 JV (Fiat India Automobiles) that came into existence in 2006 permits Fiat to sell using the Tata distribution network & also share their Ranjangaon manufacturing facility. Plans about exporting the vehicle to other countries is still under consideration. This JV is certain to go a long way with a 4000 crore investment lined up.
