Fiat India has already announced the launch of Jeep brand next year. Under the Fiat Chrysler brand, India will get two Jeep SUV’s, Wrangler and Grand Cherokee. Both these cars will set their foot on Indian roads and conditions for the first time. In order to attune these SUV’s for India, Fiat will begin extensive testing of both, Grand Cherokee and Wrangler from January 2013.
A Fiat executive working on this project revealed that 4 units each of Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee will be brought to Fiat’s facility in Ranjangaon within the next few weeks. Once they are in the Fiat India facility, experienced drivers will begin testing these SUV’s on all Indian roads, from Khardung La to Kanyakumari and Kutch to Arunachal Pradesh. Fiat will also test the Jeep SUV’s for India in Nepal. All the Jeep models on testing will not be wearing any camouflage, so expect spy shots of the same to emerge very soon.
Both these Jeep SUV’s will be launched in the second half of 2013. Jeep Wrangler will be launched in the compact SUV segment with an estimated price tag of Rs 30 lakhs while Jeep Grand Cherokee will be launched in the mid-sized SUV segment with an estimated price tag of Rs 45 lakhs. Once launched, Jeep Wrangler will compete with BMW X1 and Audi Q3, while the Grand Cherokee will compete with Mercedes ML250, Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Volvo XC60.
