Fiat Punto Evo has 95% localization: Abarth 500 assembly planned from 2015
At the start of this year, Fiat India promised a total of four new cars. First came in the form of Linea facelift, second was Punto facelift. With successful launch of Fiat Punto Evo yesterday, Fiat India now looks forward to the next two car launches for this year. First will be Avventura CUV in the next 60 days, while the second will be in the form of Abarth 500.
Fiat Avventura is a sturdier looking version of the Punto Evo. It will have a ground clearance of 200mm, giving the car an off-roader stance. It will also receive other features such as tail gate mounted spare wheel, mouldings on sides, protective skid plates and roof rails.
Fiat Punto Avventura interiors will also be sportier than that seen on the Punto Evo with premium upholstery, contrasting stitching, and increased ride height. It will share its engine specs with the Punto Evo to include the same 1.3-litre multijet diesel and 1.4-litre FIRE petrol engine options while it will compete against Volkswagen Cross Polo and Toyota Etios Cross. No pricing has been confirmed as on date but it could be priced at around INR 5.5-8.5 lakhs bracket if the same number of variants as Punto Evo are on offer.
Fiat India also brings Fiat 500 Abarth to India by the end of 2014, which should be priced at around INR 22 lakhs. Based on Fiat 500 hatchback, Fiat 500 Abarth will be powered by a 137 bhp, 1.4 liter turbo engine. For the moment it will be brought into the country via the CBU route while localization is planned for sometime in 2015.
