Volkswagen Polo rival Fiat Punto Evo spied again, in Drass
Fiat Punto Evo is slated for launch in August. To compete with Volkswagen Polo facelift, which was launched earlier today at a starting price of Rs 4.99 lakhs, new Punto has arrived at dealerships and bookings too have begun. The Punto facelift is expected to come in at an expected price of INR 5-7.5 lakhs.
Punto Evo was recently caught testing in Drass, which is the world’s second coldest inhabited place in the world. As seen from the spy shots, updates include exterior enhancements such as revised headlamps and grille, new bumper, alloy wheels, ORVMs with integrated blinkers and tail light. Interiors sport a new dashboard borrowed from the new Linea. Apart from this, rear AC vents too adds to its USP. Punto Evo is the second hatchback to get rear AC vents, which is only seen on the Hyundai Grand i10 as on date.
No changes to powertrain as 2014 Punto Evo continues with its same 1.3 liter MultiJet diesel engine in two states of tunes 75 PS and 90 PS. Petrol engines continue to be 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter engines offering 68 PS and 90 PS respectively. Each of these engines is mated to 5 speed manual transmissions.
The current Fiat Punto has been seeing plummeting sales. Since the start of this year, January to June 2014 has seen a total of 4,691 Punto’s sold, averaging at just 782 units per month. The refreshed hatchback is expected to turn sales around for Fiat even as the company plans launch of the Avventura and Abarth 500 premium hatchback to add to their portfolio later this year.
