CEO of Fiat, Sergio Marchionne will reveal official plans next week about the much awaited information on manufacturing Jeep SUVs in Italy. Fiat will produce two small sports utility vehicles of Jeep at their plant in Italy. These two SUVs will be produced from the company plant in Melfi, Central Italy.
Marchionne has set targets of enhanced sales of high end luxury cars and will be introducing 19 new models by 2016, all of which will be produced in Italy. Out of this lineup, six vehicles will be Maserati while the balance will be Alfa Romeos with sales set for Europe and other markets across the globe. To cater to these targets, the company has also announced investments to the tune of €18 billion over the coming two year period wherein a large percentage of which will be spent on designing of these models.
Fiat is also set to introduce the Jeep brand in Indian markets with first Jeep vehicles scheduled to arrive by end of 2013. Fiat will launch Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler in India. Testing of these SUV’s in India will begin from Jan 2013. After the launch, Fiat India plans on localizing Jeep products, specifically to B and C segments small SUVs and Fiat brand in four distinct portfolios.
