In an announcement made by Fiat India in New Delhi, by this yearend, Fiat will export their cars to neighbouring countries of Nepal, Bhutan and Sri Lanka. The announcement was made by an official spokesperson of Fiat India at the ongoing SIAM summit in New Delhi.

Fiat India has already created a market for itself in South Africa when it started exporting models Punto, Linea and Palio since August last year. Since then Fiat India is on the lookout for countries with right hand drive market.  Rushlane had reported in June about Fiat India to export cars to SAARC nations.

The official added, "We see opportunities in the neighbouring markets for our products, especially Sri Lanka, where the government has thrashed the import duty on new cars." The government of Sri Lanka in a recent move brought the 200% import duty on vehicles to 117% only.
