Honda’s production centre in Pingtung in Southern Taiwan will be unable to contribute to production in any capacity until such time as supplies are resumed. This closure however did not affect either maintenance or repair works.
Besides company set up in Taiwan, Honda’s production centre based in Malaysia too would face suspension of operations. Supply of accessories and spares to US, Europe and South East Asia have been affected this has resulted in severe shortages and loss in production. This suspension of Taiwan operations will come at a time during New Year and Chinese New Year when auto purchases are considered auspicious. In November, the company recorded a drop of about 40% and sold only 1159 vehicles in the month.
