Poor visibility all along the Florida highway on Sunday morning has left 10 persons dead. The stretch across Interstate 75 in Florida was enveloped in fog and smoke on early Sunday morning as a result of bush fires. It is this that lead to poor visibility which consequently resulted in a huge pile up of vehicles south of Gainsville. Over 12 cars and seven larger vehicles were involved in the pile up that commenced at 3.45 AM wherein at least 10 persons lost their lives.
All six lanes of the highway are cordoned off so as to enable investigations to detect the exact cause of accident of this magnitude. So dense was the fog and smog that rescue personnel found it difficult to continue with rescue operations and had to listen out for screams for help before they could find injured persons in the wreckage. Injured were rescued and taken to local hospitals, though their conditions are still unknown. Local authorities had shut down the highway due to fog and smog, but later opened it after visibility improved.
