Ford design chief, Mr J Mays has openly criticized Hyundai's new design language which they call Fluidic Design. Ford unveiled their new design language at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year and their first car to be built on this new design language premiered at the 2011 Delhi Auto Expo. As of now, the first Ford car to be built on their new design language does not carry any name and is known as EcoSport.

Mr J Mays stated that, "We've talked about visual premium-ness. Premium doesn't have to scream; premium can talk quietly. There's a lot of frenetic design out there. I'm not criticising Hyundai , it's just a different philosophy, but their design is really all over the map, it's really loud and fussy. I don't think that's premium and I really don't think it's sustainable."

On the other hand, Hyundai has not yet reacted to these remarks made by Ford design chief. Hyundai design chief firmly believes that their design is not as loud and flashy as Hyundai's Fluidic Design. In order to have a premium appearance, you don't need to be loud, adds Mr Mays.
