Update: All 10 Ford EcoSport variants India bookings stopped due to high demand

Ford India has at the moment stopped EcoSport bookings across dealerships here. The compact SUV first made heads turn in Brazil, and has touched all the right notes in India, where it is made at their Chennai plant.

EcoSport is also made in Brazil, and China, and Russia and Thailand doo will join in. In a big way, Ford EcoSport has been a big game changer in India. Since its launch in June 2013 here, over 30,000 units have been sold.

Soon after launch, some of its 10 variants enjoyed 3-5 months waiting period. High demand for the 1-litre Ecoboost petrol variant too were stopped earlier. For a brief while, the diesel EcoSport was recalled to rectify the glow plug.

While Ford EcoSport is raking in the numbers, at present bookings have been stopped across all variants as per Planet Ford in Pune. The development is a result of waiting period for certain variants having crossed a year. Ford India says, “While we did anticipate that the Ford EcoSport would generate great demand, it is gratifying to see an overwhelming response and continued strong demand of our compact urban SUV. As we are witnessing an extended waiting period on certain variants, mostly petrol, we have temporarily stopped taking bookings on those specific variants.”

Keeping this in mind, it’s possible that your closest dealership is still accepting Ford EcoSport bookings. Ford India has invested $1 billion for their upcoming Sanand plant in Gujarat, which would be functional before the end of 2014.
