Ford India has managed to garner enough attention for their EcoSport SUV. Launch of the new EcoSport in India has been scheduled for early 2013 and inquiries have already started to pour in at dealerships. But Ford India is mum on vital parameters of the EcoSport SUV like mileage and price.
Ford EcoSport will arrive in India with both petrol and diesel powered engine options. For diesel, EcoSport will feature the 1.5L mill that features in the Fiesta, and for the petrol, there will be two options, 1.5L from the fiesta and the all new next gen engine, 1.0L EcoBoost. It is this EcoBoost engine that is the most awaited as it is expected to offer unmatchable mileage in the Indian auto industry. At the start Ford India will not be offering a 4×4 variant of EcoSport in India.
Earlier this month, Ford Nepal had revealed that they will be launching the EcoSport for less than NPR 40 lakhs. Taking into consideration the price of other Ford cars sold in Nepal, which are exported from India, this brings the launch price of EcoSport in India to around Rs 10 lakhs. This puts the EcoSport in a different league, than that of the Renault Duster, which is priced from Rs 7.5 lakhs.
Apart from this, Renault is planning on launching the 4X4 variant of Duster in India, around the same time when EcoSport will be launched. This will put the Duster AWD as a competitor to the base variant of EcoSport. All this and much more from the compact SUV segment of the Indian auto industry in the next few month.
