Ford Figo Aspire compact sedan which was unveiled at the company’s brand new Sanand plant earlier this year is getting ready to be launched in festive season. Based on next gen Figo, the sub-4 metre sedan would replace the aging Classic.
Ford Figo Aspire’s sales success is crucial for the company in India.
Talking to The Hindu BusinessLine, Umashankar PK, vice president, Customer Service Operations, Ford India, stated that the company is expecting to generate even more interest for Figo Aspire among customers than it did for original Figo and EcoSport.
He also stated that sub-4 metre sedan segment is expected to grow at a significant pace in the coming years and expanding into such a lucrative segment would contribute to sales growth.
Aspire will be powered by 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with variable valve technology and a 1.5-litre diesel engine derived from EcoSport. Ford has announced that petrol version will be available with both manual and automatic gearboxes but it remains to be seen whether the 1.5-litre/6-speed Powershift dual-clutch combo from EcoSport will be offered or not.
The compact sedan is expected to be launched in festive season.
Apart from ramping up its installed production capacity in India to 4.4 lakh units per annum (2.4 lakh units per annum at Sanand plant and rest at Chennai plant), the American auto giant is also working on reducing the maintenance and repair costs of its vehicles. Umashankar says that now a Ford car can be serviced at as low as INR 2,199.
