Construction of Ford India’s new plant at Sanand on schedule to start producing cars by 2014: Michael Boneham

While speaking to media in Mumbai recently, Ford India President and MD, Michael Boneham said that the construction at their new facility in Sanand was going according to plan. If all goes well, Ford will start manufacturing cars at their new facility by early 2014. The image above was clicked last week at the Ford Sanand construction site. Michael added that as of now, 3,000 construction workers are working in order to complete the setting up of the facility which is being built over an area of 400 acres.

Apart from speaking about the plant, Michael also added that their focus is to concentrate more on the B and C Segments. Production of the new Ford EcoSport will commence in China where it will be launched in early 2013 following its Indian launch a few weeks later. Ford Figo facelift was launched and soon the EcoSport will make its way into the C Segment. Ford Figo facelift is seen with as many as 140 changes, as compared to its predecessor. These changes include engine updates which relates to enhanced fuel efficiency, headlights are larger and contain more reflective area.

Ford EcoSport launch will take place next year and the production of this compact SUV is scheduled to start from February 2013, from their Maraimalainagar plant in Chennai. EcoSport will be an SUV in sub 4 meter category, much like the Mahindra Quanto which will enable the manufacturer to take advantage of a lower tax structure to keep prices competitive. The vehicle is already on sale in Brazilian markets and will be launched in China soon.
