Just a few moments ago, Mr Michael Boneham, President, Ford Motors India unveiled their all new second manufacturing unit in India. Situated in Sanand near Ahmedabad, Ford’s second manufacturing unit will be setup at a cost of $1 billion.

Once up and running, Ford Sanand plant will be manufacturing 240,000 units and 270,000 engines annually. Most of these cars and engines will be manufactured for the Indian auto industry, remaining will be exported to foreign markets.

Ford Motors expects the Sanand unit to be running to capacity by 2014. With the help of this new plant, Ford expects to grow to new heights globally, especially in the Asian auto industry. Ford Sanand will also help the manufacturer to achieve its target of increasing their sales by 50% by 2018.

Elsewhere at their first manufacturing unit in India, located in Chennai, Ford Motors has already announced an investment to the tune of $72 million in order to expand powertrain facility. Ford has invested a total of $2 billion in Indian auto industry till date.
