With Chinese customers gearing up for the Chinese New Year and Year of the Snake, sales of General Motors have reached an all time high. January sales sailed passed the 300,000 mark for the first time in the country in a single month. January sales totaled 310,765 units resulting in an increase of 26% over sales in January 2012 and 15.9% over sales in January 2011.

It was the combined sales of Shanghai GM, SAIC-GM Wuling and Buick, Chevrolet and Wuling brands that resulted in these record sales. Shanghai GM sold 154,220 units in China showing an increase of 24.3% YoY, SAIC-GM-Wuling sales touched the 151,819 unit mark, an increase of 26.6%. FAW-GM sales increased 84.5% to 4,490 units.

This high growth and good results were due to five more working days in January. The company is however gearing up for a 35 percent month on month fall in sales growth during the month of February due to the a week long Spring Festival holiday which will reduce working time by five days in February 2013. Nonetheless, combined sales of January and February 2013 should see growth rise by 25% YoY.
