HMSI Narsapura plant investment of Rs 585 cr

Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt. Ltd (HMSI) has announced extensive plans to increase annual production. At its third facility, HMSI Narsapura plant under operation, the company is pumping in INR 585 crores. New production lines will be added along with a 4th plant at Vithalapur to be operational in mid 2016 which will take the company’s total production capacities to 6.4 million units before the end of 2016.

Activa scooter production at HMSI Narsapura plantThe HMSI Narsapura plant commenced operation in June 2013 with production capacity of 1.8 million units. This increased production targets, fresh investments and addition of new production line will provide the company with opportunities and expansion of the brand in the largest two wheeler market in the world. At present, Honda two wheelers production capacity in India stands at 4.6 million units. Once operational, Vithalapur Gujarat plant will be capable of 1.2 million units production. Production expansion at HMSI Narsapura plant will add a total of 2.4 million units to the company’s combined unit production capacity here during FY2016-17.

Honda 2 Wheeler’s 5.8 billion rupee investment goes towards a new production line within the existing HMSI Narsapura plant site. The new production line adds 600,000 units to increase total annual production capacity of Honda’s 3rd plant at Narsapura to 2.4 million units before the end of 2016, from teh current 1.8 million units being made.

HMSI has three plants situated at Manesar, Haryana; Tapukara, Rajasthan and Narsapura, Karnataka while its four plant is underway in Vithalapur, Gujarat. The company has far reching plans for India and has strengthened its position over the years to become the second largest two wheeler company in the country. In FY 2014-15 the company experience sales growth of 20 pct while this year the company has planned a lineup of 15 new models with seven being all new models. The company will be enhancing manufacturing capabilities and will be expanding dealership networks into the hinterlands so as to achieve these targets.

Keita Muramatsu, President and CEO – Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India says Honda is big on its Make in India resolve through steady and strategic investments to create 39 pct additional capacity within 3.5 years. Number of associates in the plant will be increased to about 1,900.
