Honda Amaze sales crosses 1 lakh units in 16 months since launch
Honda Amaze compact sedan from Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL) was launched on 11th April 2013 at starting price of Rs. 4.99 lakhs for petrol and Rs. 5.99 lakhs for diesel variants. In first three weeks of launch, Honda Amaze saw about 22,000 bookings and now in 16 months, sales have crossed 1 lakh units milestone.
This is by far the fastest sales performance in history of HCIL. Growing compact sedan segment in India gained extra popularity from Honda Amaze and more automakers are planning to enter this segment as huge potential is seen. Honda Amaze is currently competing with Hyundai Xcent, Maruti Swift DZire and soon to come Tata Zest compact sedan launching on 12th August 2014.
Honda entered diesel race in India via Amaze. 1.5 litre 4 cylinder Double Over Head Camshaft (DOHC) i-DTEC diesel engine that produces 100 PS maximum power @ 3,600 rpm and 200 Nm peak torque @ 1,750 rpm was also plonked in 2014 Honda City sedan and latest Honda Mobilio 7 seater MPV. Diesel version of Honda Amaze saw more demand than petrol; waiting period initially was about 4 months for former and 2 months for latter.
Similar case was seen with Honda City sedan as well. In 6 months from launch, City saw 45,900 bookings. At that time, last month, 95,445 units of Amaze was sold. Now Honda Mobilio has stolen the limelight, which took over 8,800 bookings in just 7 days. Order book of Mobilio now has more than 10,000 entries, result of which is the temporary shutdown of Honda City production for about a month now. Question is, which car will next cross 1 lakh sales mark, Honda City or Honda Mobilio?
