Honda CBR 150R to be produced in Indonesia, expect price reduction
PT Astra Honda Motor Indonesia will no longer import CBR 150R entry level sports bike from Thailand. It will henceforth be produced locally at Honda’s plant located in Karawang, West Java. After due processes are completed, Honda CBR 150R should come out after Eid or sometime in August 2014. No word about CBR 150R a.k.a Honda K45 facelift yet.
Main advantage in local production is price competitiveness. Currently, Honda CBR 150R is priced at Rp 41.75 million (Rs. 2,11,480 approx.) and Repsol version at Rp 42.5 million (Rs. 2,14,556 approx.). Whereas its biggest competitor Yamaha R15 version 2.0 costs only Rp 28 million (Rs. 1,41,355 approx.), which is produced locally at PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing’s plant.
Locally made Honda CBR 150R should be priced aggressively to respond to competition, since Honda Indonesia is attacked by Yamaha R15’s huge difference in price and immense popularity of Yamaha R25. Although it is natural to expect hike in sales after local assembly of CBR 150R begins, but Margono Tanuwijaya, Director of Marketing Astra Honda Motor said that only 3 percent increase is expected.
The Yamaha R15 rival hosts a liquid cooled 149.4cc engine that generates 17.57 bhp max. power @ 10,500 rpm and 12.66 Nm peak torque @ 8,500 rpm; mated to 6 speed manual gearbox. Honda CBR 150R weighs 138kg, equips front telescopic fork and adjustable mono shock suspension at rear.
