Officially inaugurated by the CM of Gujarat State, Anandiben Patel in February 2016, this is the fourth plant of Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) in the country. It is the only plant in the country which produces only scooters.
At the time of inauguration, only one production line was functional. HMSI has now inaugurated a second production line. This has resulted in production capacity to be doubled from 6 lakh a year to 12 lakh a year units.

Located at Vithalapur (Mandal taluk, Ahmedabad district) in the western state of Gujarat, this new plant has increased HMSI’s total production capacity to 58 lakh (5.8 million) units per annum.
1.6 million units at first plant (Haryana), 1.2 million units at second plant (Rajasthan), 1.8 million units at third plant (Karnataka) and another 1.2 million units at the fourth plant (Gujarat).

Elaborating on this milestone, Mr. Keita Muramatsu, President & CEO – Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. said, “India is not only the World’s No. 1 two-wheeler market but is also going to be the No. 1 contributor to Honda global 2Wheeler sales for the first time in this fiscal year 2016-17. Scooterization, a trend seen earlier in developed markets of the world, is firmly driving the Indian 2Wheeler momentum today. The scooter segment is growing at 30% compared to 15% growth of two-wheeler industry.”
