Honda was noted for its premium offerings, which included the likes of Jazz hatchback, City sedan, Accord luxury sedan and CR-V. But soon the car maker realized the importance of small cars in order to grow in a country like India. The company forayed into the launch of Brio small car in September 2011.
Though the did not get the company the expected results, it opened a new door for Honda in India. Thanks to Brio’s GSP platform, Honda launched Amaze in 2013 and Mobilio MPV earlier this year. While Amaze is set to touch the milestone of 1 lakh production this week, Mobilio has amassed over 9,000 bookings within 7 days of launch.
In order to meet the rise in demand, Honda also started car production at their new plant in Tapukara, Rajasthan. Honda Cars India has extensive plans for the years ahead. Set to target sales of 300,000 units by 2017, the company also plans to add 900-1000 employees to their current list of 9,000 strong.
