Honda India to launch Jazz by July 2015, Accord in 2016?

Honda Jazz, aimed squarely at likes of Maruti Swift, Hyundai Elite i20 and VW Polo is slated to make a comeback in the months ahead. Already spotted at Honda plant in India, prototype production of this hatch seems to have already commenced.

New Honda Jazz made official India debut at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo.

With the next generation Jazz, Honda will not be making the same mistakes as was the case with the previous Jazz. Due to less local content, the old Jazz in India was priced very high as compared to rivals. This eventually led to its withdrawal from the Indian auto industry. But, the new Jazz is India ready. Not only it is expected to come with 90% local content, but also with a diesel engine.

The new Honda Jazz will be seen with higher fuel efficiency and advanced features so as to vie for its fair share of attention in an otherwise highly competitive premium hatchback segment. 2015 Honda Jazz will receive the same engine lineup as seen on the Amaze to include a 1.2 liter i-VTEC engine offering 87 bhp power and 109 Nm torque and 1.5 liter i-DTEC engine capable of 99 bhp power and 200 Nm torque. Both engines will be mated to 5 speed manual gearbox. Apart from this, a CVT with steering mounted paddle shifters is also planned. Expect the new Jazz to carry a starting price in the range of Rs 5.5 lakhs.

New Accord will compete with the likes of Skoda Superb, Volkswagen Passat, Toyota Camry. (new variants of all these models are confirmed for India launch in 2015)

Speaking about the new Accord, this flagship sedan was also discontinued back in 2013. Reason being, high cost, declining sales, and unavailability of a diesel motor. This time around, though the price will continue to remain high, it is possible that Honda will offer a diesel engine on the Accord. Apart from Accord, Honda also plans to launch Civic and CR-V diesel in India.
