Hyundai Car Sales Break Up March 2020 – Creta is No 1

Hyundai Motors sales in March 2020 dipped 41 percent amid the lockdown due to the corona virus pandemic

Hyundai Motor India announced sales results for March 2020. It may be seen from the attached table that the automaker sold a total of 26,300 units in the past month as against 44,350 units sold in March 2019. Of all the models in the company lineup, it was only the Hyundai Xcent that noted positive sales, up 46 percent to 2,615 units from 1,792 units sold in March 2019.

Apart from de-growth in domestic sales, the automaker also suffered lower exports with 5,979 units shipped in the past month as against 16,800 units exported in the same month of the previous year.

Hyundai Santro sales dipped 74 percent to 2,169 units, down from 8,280 units sold in March 2019. Now the BS6 Santro has also been launched in India and is priced from Rs.4.57 lakhs. It gets powered via a 1.1 liter Epsilon MPI petrol engine that offers 69 PS power and 99 Nm torque mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox.

Hyundai i10 Grand and i20 Elite sales also dipped 41 percent and 72 percent respectively to 4,293 units and 3,455 units as compared to sales in the same month of the previous year. Earlier this month the company also introduced the Hyundai i10 Grand NIOS CNG in India in two variants of Magna and Sportz with a starting price of Rs 6.63 lakhs. The company has also silently launched the i20 Elite BS6 in Magna+, Sportz+ and Asta(O) variants at a starting price of Rs.6.50 lakhs.

Hyundai Venue, launched in India later last year, currently dominates its segment. It noted sales of 6,127 units last month scaling past its rivals such as the Maruti Suzuki Brezza and Tata Nexon which recorded sales of 5,513 units and 2,644 units respectively.

Hyundai Elantra sales also dipped 67 percent to just 28 units sold last month as compared to 86 units sold in March 2019. The BS6 Elantra diesel has been detailed with a BS6 2.0 liter Nu petrol engine offering 152 PS power and 192 Nm torque while it will continue with the same 1.5 liter diesel BS6 that also powers the new Creta and Verna facelift. Hyundai Tucson failed to record any sales in the past month. The Kona electric noted sales of 14 units in the past month.

Despite constraints of an overall slowdown in the auto sector over the past many months, the upgrade to BS6 emissions standards and the lockdown from the end of March 2020, Hyundai India launched the second gen Hyundai Creta on March 16, 2020 priced from Rs.9.9 lakhs. Later in the past month, the new Verna facelift was also launched priced from Rs.9.3-15.1 lakhs.
