Hyundai Elite i20 launch tomorrow, here is all we know

Exterior – On first impression, you’ll notice Hyundai Elite i20 carries mostly European styling with redesigned headlamps, new grille architecture, three part air dam, new fog lamps and fresh bumper. LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) is not on offer in second generation i20. Side profile is also different from first ten i20. Rear fascia gets new taillights that extend to boot / hatch door; new rear bumper hosts fog lamp and reverse light on bottom part.

Interior – When you open the door, first thing comes to mind is that Elite i20 is reminiscent of Grand i10 / Hyundai Xcent in terms of dashboard colour theme, that also extends to door panels and seat upholstery fabric. Cabin styling is completely different from older i20 hatchback, that means it looses the sporty steering wheel too.

Features – Functional equipment list includes follow me home lamps, bucket type seats, front centre armrest with storage, impact sensing door unlock, clutch lock, Multi Function Display (MFD), rear AC vent, 2 DIN audio system, lane change indicators, smart pedal system, dual cabin lights and sunglass holder. Sunroof is believed to be absent in any variant of Hyundai Elite i20.

Specifications – Hyundai Elite i20 will be shorter in length by 10 mm, wider by 24 mm and as tall as first generation i20. Wheelbase will be increased by 45 mm and ground clearance improved by 4 mm; boot volume will remain identical. 16 inch sporty alloy wheel will be available in top of line model, 195/55-R16. Claimed top speed of Hyundai Elite i20 petrol version is 165 kmph and diesel is 170 kmph.

Variants – Five variants of Hyundai Elite i20 will be launched, Era, Magna, Sportz, Asta and an option variant like Magna (O) or Sports (O). All five in petrol and diesel options. Elite i20 petrol hosts 1.2 litre Kappa engine producing 83 PS @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm @ 4,000, with 5 speed manual transmission. Elite i20 diesel, 1.4 litre U2 CRDI generates 90 PS @ 4,000 rpm and 220 Nm @ 1,500-2,750 rpm, with 6 speed manual transmission. There will be no Automatic variant.

Price – Hyundai Elite i20 is expected to be pricier than first generation model which started at Rs. 4.81 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) for Era petrol variant, till Rs. 6.31 lakhs for top end Asta petrol version. Diesel i20 was priced at Rs. 5.95 lakhs for Era variant and high end diesel Asta i20 costed Rs. 7.53 lakhs. It is possible that Hyundai will price the entry level variants of Elite i20 lower than older one and top of line trims may demand more from the pocket compared to earlier generation ones. We are just hours away from finding out.
