40 Hyundai i20 Active images in hi-res; How different is it from Elite i20?

Based on the new Hyundai i20, here is a new beefed-up, muscular and sportier looking variant, called the i20 Active. Global launch of the new Hyundai car will take place in India on 17th March 2015.

To be offered in the same engine choices as Hyundai i20 hatchback (called Elite i20 in India), i20 Active will only be offered as a front wheel drive, and no all wheel drive variant will be on offer. Diesel engine will be in the form of 1.4l U2 CRDi 4 cylinder unit, generating 90 PS power and 220 Nm torque, while the petrol unit will be a 1.2l Dual VTVT engine generating 83 PS power and 114 Nm torque. Petrol engine is mated to a five speed manual gearbox, while diesel option is mated to a six speed manual gearbox. No automatic transmission is on offer.

Mileage claimed by diesel engine is 21.19 kmpl, while petrol claims 17.19 kmpl. This compared to i20 hatch, is lesser by 0.8 kmpl and 1.3 kmpl respectively. Apart from this, especially for i20 Active, the final gear ratios have been increased, which has improved petrol engine acceleration by 6% and diesel engine acceleration by 11%.

New Hyundai i20 Active is 3995 mm long, 1760 mm wide and 1555 mm tall (including roof rails). It has a wheelbase of 2570 mm. When compared to the i20 hatchback on sale in India, i20 Active is 10 mm longer, 26 mm wider, 50 mm taller, while wheelbase is the same. Ground clearance of i20 Active stands at 190 mm, which is 20 mm more than i20 hatchback. Boot space remains same at 285 litres.

Features on board will include DRL projector headlamps with cornering lamps and LEDs, 8 speaker music system, USB & AUX ports, Bluetooth, 1 GB internal audio memory, automatic AC, cluster ionizer which purifies air inside the cabin, sporty aluminium pedals, 16 inch diamond cut alloys, two interior themes – Tangerine Orange and Aqua Blue, rear AC vents, glovebox cooling, steering mounted controls, auto folding electric ORVMs with integrated blinkers, Smart Key for keyless entry and ignition, start/stop button, adjustable driver seat, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering column, front airbags, and ABS.

Hyundai i20 Active has already started arriving at dealerships. Expected to be launched in the price range of Rs 6-9 lakhs, it will compete with the likes of Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross, and Fiat Avventura.
