Following the launch of successful cars like Grand i10, Xcent, Elite i20 and Verna, Hyundai India today launched the i20 Active. Based on the Elite i20 hatchback, Hyundai i20 Active price starts from Rs 6.38 lakhs, which is about Rs 1.5 lakhs more expensive than Elite i20.
To compete with Toyota Etios Cross, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura, Hyundai i20 Active comes with increased dimensions and a host of new features, when compared to Elite i20. Designed at Hyundai Motor’s Design Centre in Russelsheim, Germany, the i20 Active crossover sports a new front fascia, fog lamps, projector lamps and LED daytime running lights along with a new front grille. At the rear, a new bumper, circular reflectors and roof spoiler are evident while to add to its sporty appeal, skid plates, added body cladding and new 16” alloy wheels are also being presented.
On board equipment includes an 8 speaker music system with USB and AUX ports, Bluetooth connectivity and 1 GB internal audio memory. The i20 Active also receives automatic air conditioning, aluminum pedals and front airbags with ABS.
While wheelbase and boot space remain the same as compared to that seen on the i20 hatchback, the i20 Active is 10mm longer, 26mm wider and 50mm taller while ground clearance stands at 190mm. This makes the i20 Active more equipped to tackle Indian road conditions with ease.
Being offered in two interior colour options of Tangerine Orange & Black and Aqua Blue & Black, Hyundai i20 Active sports both petrol and diesel engine options. These are same as seen on i20 hatch – in the form of a 1.2 liter petrol engine offering 83 PS power and 114 Nm torque and 1.4 liter diesel engine offering 90 PS power and 220 Nm torque mated to 5 speed and 6 speed manual gearbox respectively. Mileage claimed by petrol mill is 17.19 kmpl, and that of diesel is claimed at 21.19 kmpl.
Though the engines are same, they are tuned to deliver better acceleration in i20 Active. Thanks to longer final gear ratio, says Hyundai. Technically, the i20 Active petrol accelerates 6% faster, while the diesel accelerates 11% faster as compared to respective hatchback variants.
Exterior colour options on offer are – Earth Brown, Red Passion, Phantom Black, Sleek Silver, and Polar White. The former three get Tangerine Orange interiors, while the latter two gets Aqua Blue interiors.
