Hyundai i20 heads for festive launch, shows rear LEDs
It is no secret that Hyundai is readying a new i20, as the car has been caught testing across the globe. And on several occasions in India, including in Chennai and Bangalore earlier and more recently in Delhi. The current generation i20 was launched in 2008 and refreshed in 2012 to make its design in keeping with Hyundai’s fluidic design language.
Hyundai i20 is a hatchback loaded with features, most of them being segment first. In India, it is a popular car, offering value for money a good resale value. 2015 Hyundai i20 is expected to be unveiled at 2014 Paris Motor Show and slated to go on sale in India in October/November. India will be the first market to receive this second generation i20, just like Grand i10 last year. The India- spec Hyundai i20 will stay under 4 meters in length so as to take advantage of government sanctions while proportions will be increased for global markets.
Hyundai i20 is codenamed IB as on date. Spied on test in Delhi devoid of much camouflage, rear disc brakes, LED tail lights and various other impressive features were evident. Promising more interior space and a more accommodative luggage compartment, the 2015 i20 will be offered with both petrol and diesel engine options carried forward from the current i20.
These will include a 1.2 liter four cylinder Kappa engine and 1.4 liter four cylinder petrol mated to automatic or manual transmission. A 1.4 liter diesel engine will also be on offer as the i20 comes in to compete with Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Swift, Honda Jazz and Fiat Punto. No pricing has been revealed but one can safely estimate prices to be in the INR 5-8 lakh category.
