Hyundai ix25 compact SUV and 2015 i20 caught on test
Hyundai is preparing to take on India’s largest car maker, Maruti Suzuki India with a host of new launches. One of them is already here, Grand i10, while the other is about to be launched, Xcent sedan. After this, Hyundai is expected to launch the new i20, and the ix25 compact SUV, both of which were recently spotted on test.
ix25 from Hyundai will be based on the next generation i20. Spotted on test with dual toned front seats in black and blue, the ix25 was spotted with manual transmission. Its interiors are spacious and comfortable for upto 5 adults while leg room is at a premium. The ix25 is a compact SUV sitting in a wheelbase of 2570mm as against the 2520mm wheelbase seen on board Ford EcoSport.
Expected to make its presence felt at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2014, China launch of the ix25 is scheduled for end of the year. ix25 could be the final name for the European market while the model itself is inspired by Hyundai’s Curb Concept seen at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show and which is the work of Hyundai Design Studio in California. Engine range is slated to be similar to that seen on the next Hyundai i20, so one can safely say that they will include a 1.2 liter petrol and 1.4 liter diesel engine.
Hyundai ix25 will be produced in China through joint venture with BAIC. In India, it will be produced at their plant in Chennai. Once officially launched, the ix25 will compete with Ford EcoSport, Renault Captur, Peugeot 2008 and Kia Soul.
Speaking about the new i20, this is expected to be launched by the second half of 2014 as the 2015 model. Though Hyundai is expected to reveal the car at world’s largest auto show, Frankfurt Motor Show in September later this year. India launch could happen almost simultaneously. 2015 Hyundai i20 is designed by Hyundai R&D facilities in Germany. The new i20 will feature new headlight, taillight, bumper, and better driving dynamics.
