Hyundai Creta blue colour to be seen on Kona as well – Spied

South Korean automakers Hyundai are all set to introduce the new Kona electric SUV in India on 9th July 2019. This will be India’s first all electric, long range, crossover which will come in via the CKD route. It will be assembled locally at the company plant in Chennai. Slated to come in at an expected price between Rs.22-27 lakhs, the Kona will join the likes of the Creta, Tucson and Venue as a five seater SUV in the company line-up.

The electric SUV has been regularly spied by automotive enthusiasts, but most of the times the car has been seen either camouflaged, or in white exterior colour. This time, a new colour has been spotted, thanks to Shanth Ramesh, who spotted the Creta like Blue coloured Kona in Chennai recently.

In terms of exterior styling, the Kona EV will get twin LED headlamps with DRLs and LED tail lamps. It will also be seen with stylish bumpers, rain sensing wipers and 17” alloy wheels. Its cabin will sport several premium features with leather upholstery, ventilated seating and a multi function steering wheel with power steering.

It will get an 8” touchscreen panel with satellite navigation, 8 speaker KRELL sound system with a sub woofer along with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. ABS and EBD along with cruise control are offered as standard while other safety features include forward collision avoidance assist, blind spot detection, intelligent speed limit warning and a total of 6 airbags.

In global markets, the Hyundai Kona EV is offered with two electric engine options. The 100 kW engine offers 136 PS power and a range of 289 kms while the 150 kW engine produces 204 PS power and range of 450 kms. In India, Hyundai plans to offer the 100 kW variant which will offer 136 PS power and 395 Nm torque. This engine will be capable of acceleration from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.7 seconds and a top speed of 155 kmph. Its battery can be charged upto 80 percent via a 100 kW DC charger in a matter of 5 minutes or in 6 hrs and10 min via a standard AC charger.

With the launch of Kona EV in India, the automaker will have the widest range of SUVs in the country which include the Creta, Venue, Kona EV and the Tucson. The company also plans investment to the tune of Rs.7,000 crores in India, a part of which will be towards development of an assembly line for the Kona EV. The balance investment will be towards manufacture of other car models, development of new technologies and machinery and the creation of over 1,500 more jobs in India.
