Hyundai Motors opens new plant in Piracicaba, Brazil

Hyundai Motors has launched a new state of the art production plant at Piracicaba, Sao Paulo, Brazil to strengthen their presence in auto markets in the region. The opening ceremony of this new plant was well attended by dignitaries of Hyundai Motors, Korea and Brazil. Hyundai Motors have invested US$700 million in the setting up of this new plant which has been under construction for the past 25 months. The company will produce three models specially for Brazilian markets which is soon emerging as one of the world’s top five auto markets.

HB20 Hatchback production has already commenced at this new plant. The new unit will not only strengthen relations between the two countries but will also be instrumental in creating employment opportunities for local residents directly and indirectly in the form of supporting local parts suppliers. Initially, the plant will employ 1800 workers which will be increased to 200 by 2013 with generating over 20,000 indirect jobs in the community.

The new plant set on a 1.39 million sq mtr site and has floor space of 69,000 sq mtrs wherein production activities, welding, painting, etc., will be conducted. Besides production of HB20 hatchback, the plant will also produce HB 20X crossover and a sedan especially for Brazilian markets
