Hyundai Santro with tinted glass used to ferry gang rape victim

Close on the heels of the New Delhi gang rape case, traffic regulation authorities in the capital have started drives to check tinted vehicles plying on the city’s’ roads. During a subsequent checking for tinted vehicles, police officials were in for a surprise as the car they were checking concealed a gang rape victim within the car.

The Hyundai Santro in question contained four individuals who were arrested on the spot after they broke through the barricade during the checking operation. A PCR van and a police motorcycle brought the car to a stop after almost a kilometer. During questioning occupants revealed that as the victim was with them in the car they had fled from the spot. Police questioned the woman who said that the accused accosted her and took her to his place where she was served a drink laced with sedatives. The four accused then took turns raping the woman after which they bundled her into the car.

The victim is currently recuperating at AIIMS, where Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar visited the women and her family. She also promised a sum of Rs. 2 lakh as a compensation amount and directed hospital staff to provide quality medical services. The latest incident of reported rape in the Indian capital is unfortunate, and once again brings focus to vehicles used to perpetrate rape in this country.
