Hyundai has already revealed that their plan forward is to launch one new car in a segment where they are currently not present. This year they launched the Xcent compact sedan, next year it is going to be this compact SUV.
Set to break into the country’s mass market segment, HMIL will be developing this compact SUV with special emphasis on the Indian market. They have already revealed plans to step up R&D capabilities and expansion of dealer networks from a current count of 107 to 150 by March 2015. Once launched in India the new sub compact SUV from HMIL will find competition from Ford EcoSport, Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano besides new Mahindra S101 and Maruti XA Alpha, both of which are scheduled to be launched in 2015.
This new SUV is mostly going to be a shorter variant of Hyundai ix25 which will be launched in China this October. Final design of the upcoming compact SUV is near completion and interiors are being designed while Hyundai engineers are working hard to reduce length to sub four meters so as to take advantage of certain excise duty benefits.
HMIL also plans to increase sales at an average of 15% over the next three years so as to utilize capacities in India to their maximum of 640,000 units per annum. Expansion of market share in the passenger car segment from 22% as on date to 26% over the next two years is also on the cards.
