Lack of adequate information, limited awareness and enhanced lifestyles are the reasons for public not availing the use of public transport systems. This is all about to change with efforts being made to regularly update websites with all necessary information regarding schedules, availability, rates and timings. Public have been time and again encouraged to avail of the public transport system but cite inadequate information and reliability as the prime reasons for shunning the same.

India has a wide network of rail and roadways connecting the cities and suburbs from the north to south and east to west. The website www.indianrail.gov.in has been set up offering information to users. This not only gives information of train schedules but also SMS services, booking availability and all other relevant information. The site is further divided into zones, with each zone maintaining their own website. http://www.cr.indianrailways.gov.in/ is for Central Railway information while East Central Railway website is www.ecr.indianrailways.gov.in. Southern, North Western and Western railways also have their own individual sites.

Metro Rail service is also offered in a host of cities in the country. http://www.mtp.indianrailways.gov.in offers information on the Kolkata metro systems, while information of the Delhi metro can be availed from www.delhimetrorail.com. Likewise, information on the luxurious Palace on Wheels train can be sought from http://www.palaceonwheels.com, while local bus services in various cities can be availed from respective sites such as www.mtcbus.org for Chennai and www.btis.in/bus for Bangalore transportation information. www.msrtc.gov.in provides information on the Maharashtra bus services in the state while www.ksrtc.in is an all-inclusive website maintained by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation.
