Indian Motorcycle India launch for 2014
Indian, the oldest American motorcycle brand, is scheduled to enter India within the next one year. Founded in 1901, Polaris Industries bought the brand in 2011. The news about India launch was revealed by Pankaj Dubey, Head, Polaris Industries India.
In conversation with Overdrive, Pankaj reveals, “The decision to bring Indian to India has been taken. It is early days yet but it will happen. Indian Motorcycles will come to India within a year from now is what we know.” Speaking about what models will be introduced in India, he says that it is not yet decided.
Over the last century, Indian Motorcycle has introduced some of the world’s most famous motorcycles, like Indian Chief, and Scout. The Indian Scout also featured in the famous Hollywood movie, The World’s Fastest Indian, featuring Anthony Hopkins.
Polaris Industries, the maker of leisure and off-road vehicles, which are currently present in India, are also the owners of another American motorcycle brand, Victory. As far as Indian is concerned, a new range of models are expected to be revealed later this year, starting with the 2014 Indian Chief, teaser of which has already been revealed.
The 2013 Indian Chief which is currently available in US, is priced at $26,499. But, the new Chief, whose price has already been revealed, will be priced from $18,990. This, considering the current exchange rates, is about INR 10.50 lakhs and when we take into consideration the import duty set by the govt. of India, expect this price to shoot up to INR 25 lakhs.
