Indian Motorcycles India debut on January 22, 2014
Closely following entry of British bike makers Triumph into India, Indian Motorcycles is also set to make their presence felt in India on 22nd January 2014.
Indian Motorcycles is finally making it to India thanks to Polaris Group
Country Head, Pankaj Dubey. With a range of 2014 cruisers slated to make their way into India, there’s the Indian Chief Classic, Indian Chief Vintage and Indian Chieftain each of which will be powered by a new Thunder Stroke 111 engine mated to a 6 speed transmission. The engine receives its name due to displacement of 111 cubic inches, while it produces peak torque of 161.6 Nm at 3000 rpm.
These models will be produced at the company plant in Spirit Lake, Iowa, and will be imported via the Completely Built Up Unit route. For a start, the models will be sold through a single outlet in Delhi while two more outlets in Mumbai and Bangalore will follow.
Across the US, Indian models such as Chief Classic are priced at US$ 18,999 (INR 11.83 lakhs), Chief Vintage is priced at US$ 20,999 (INR 13.08 lakhs), while Chieftain is priced at US$ 22,999 (INR 14.32 lakhs). All price estimates are mere suggestions at this point. Once launched in India the models will be heralded for their outstanding features which include powered windshield, audio support with speakers, integrated Bluetooth with smartphone support and saddle bags with electronic locks.
