Jan Kopecky was fifth time winner of the esteemed 2011 Golden Steering Wheel award in the Rally category. It is even more exemplary as Jan has been winning this award for the past four consecutive years along with his co driver Petr Stary.
Jan missed on last year's Intercontinental Rally Challenge by a single point but that took him to become the IRC Vice Champion for the third year running. Jan has also seen Skoda win the IRC in the manufacturer's category for two consecutive years.
Speaking about his successes, Jan said that he was honored to be selected for this award and was equally elated at winning the Golden Steering Wheel. He credited this win to the entire Skoda Motorsport Team and also the support that he received from Skoda factory team.
The jury consisted of motoring journalists and those proficient in judging motoring events and winners are selected from various categories such as rally drivers, circuit, hill climbers, cross country and endurance racers. Jan is also a part of the Skoda team for the current year and will also be taking part in the Czech Rally Championships.
