Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler spotted in India

Fiat India is scheduled to launch Jeep cars later this year in the country. Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler SUVs will be the one’s which will be launched by the 4th quarter of 2013.

Back in December 2012, we had revealed that Fiat India will begin the testing of Jeep SUV’s – Wrangler and Grand Cherokee in India by January 2013. Last month, we also reported about the Jeep SUV’s arriving at the Fiat India plant in Ranjangaon near Pune and the subsequent commencement of Jeep cars in India. As reported, the Jeep cars have now been spotted by AutoCar India reader Jim Gorde.

Both Jeep cars for India, will be offered as CBU’s initially. As far as pricing is concerned, the Wrangler is expected to be priced around INR 30 lakhs while the Grand Cherokee will be priced in the region of INR 45 lakhs. Fiat India will be testing these Jeep cars extensively in India. According to our source, Fiat India has given their test drivers a target of achieving 150,000 kms by the end of August 2013. Fiat India will be testing Jeep across India and will also take these American made cars to test on the trecherous terrains of Himalayas in Nepal. Jeep cars will be tested for fine-tuning the vehicle to Indian roads.

All this while, when the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee SUV’s are being tested across India, Fiat will not be camauflaging them, creating brand presence along the way. Jeep Wrangler for India will carry 2.8L diesel mill generating 197 bhp while the Grand Cherokee will be powered by 3.0L diesel mill generating 237 bhp. India will not get the 2014 models which were unveiled at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show last month. India will get 2013 models of Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
