Volkswagen Jetta Facelift bookings now open

Volkswagen introduced Jetta sedan in 1979. Before launching the latest Jetta facelift, the German brand had already sold over 14 million Jetta’s across the world. Apart from being one of their all-time best seller, Jetta is also the best selling VW car in the US. This is also the reason why Volkswagen chose 2014 New York Auto Show for the global premiere of Jetta facelift.

New Jetta Facelift

Jetta Facelift was officially unveiled last year. Based on the sixth generation Jetta, which was first launched in 2011, the facelift comes with a number of updates. This also includes exterior design modification. Already on sale across Europe and US, new Jetta facelift will be launched in India on 17th February.

Compared to the current Jetta, which was launched in India back in Aug 2011, the facelift comes with a sportier exterior. This will be in the form of revised tail-lights, new front grille with three slats, revised front and rear bumper, and new alloy design. The car is more aerodynamic, thanks to extensive re-engineering which has reduced drag by 10%. New tyres with new alloys are also re-engineered to reduce rolling resistance. You also have the option to get LED tail-lights and new xenon headlights.

Jetta Facelift will get a new sporty steering wheel.

On the inside, new Jetta comes with new instruments, accents, upholstery materials, and a new 3 spoke steering wheel. It is also loaded with new features, in addition to the one’s which were already on offer. New Jetta comes with Blind Spot Detection, Rear Traffic Alert, and Front Assist. To be sold as CKD, Jetta facelift has been awarded a 5 star safety rating by the US NCAP.

For under the hood, though the Jetta facelift received new engines abroad, in India it is expected to continue with the same options which are on offer currently. These will be in the form of 2.0 litre TDI offering 140 PS and 320 Nm torque. With 6 speed manual gearbox, this delivered 19.33 kmpl, and with 6 speed DSG it delivered 16.96 kmpl (claimed).

Jetta facelift bookings can be made at Volkswagen India dealerships for an amount of Rs 1 lakh. Price will be revealed on launch date, expect it to range from Rs 14-18 lakhs. Once launched Jetta will compete with Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla, Renault Fluence, and Hyundai Elantra.
