2019 Volkswagen Polo GT TSI facelift arrives at dealer – Spied undisguised

Volkswagen India is getting ready for their first big launch of 2019. Tomorrow, Volkswagen will launch Polo and Vento facelifts. These two are currently the best selling VW cars in India. Where Polo registers an average sales of 1,500 units a month, the Vento manages to sell about 500 units a month.

This is nowhere close to what the competition / best selling car in the segment sells. Polo is a rival to the likes of Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10. Together, these two rivals sell about 20,000 cars a month. Vento is a rival to Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Together, these 3 generate sales of about 7k units month.

This shows how poor are the sales of Volkswagen Polo and the Vento. In order to change this, and bring a boost in sales, Volkswagen will launch the facelifts of the two cars tomorrow. Both these cars have arrived at dealerships, where they have been spied undisguised.

Both Polo and the Vento will receive minor updates on the outside, biggest of them is the addition of front grille inspired by the Polo GTI and the rear roof spoiler. Other than this, no other major changes are noticeable on the outside. On the inside, the new Polo and Vento could get more features, updated seat comfort, seat upholstery, etc.

Launch of the 2019 VW Polo and Vento is part of the VW Group’s Project 2.0 strategy, which is now being spearheaded by Skoda India. Yes, it is Skoda India which is spearheading the brand Volkswagen in India. Not only they plan to launch new cars, but also improve service and after sales. We could expect the new Polo and Vento could come with attractive warranty offers and hassle free service offers.

Powering the two cars will most likely be the same set of petrol and diesel engines, which are currently on offer with the two cars. These will be BS4 options, and will be updated to BS6 by early 2020.

Polo petrol is offered in two engine options 1.0 liter 3 cyl 75 hp / 95 Nm / 5 MT (18.78 kmpl) and for the TSI trim – 1.2 liter 4 cyl 103 hp / 175 Nm / 17.21 kmpl (7 DCT). Diesel Polo is powered by 1.5 liter 4 cyl motor, which delivers 89 hp / 230 Nm / 20 kmpl. It also gets a more powerful option 108 hp / 250 Nm / 5 MT / 21 kmpl for the TDI trim. Price ranges from Rs 7.3 lakhs to Rs 9.7 lakhs for Polo diesel and from Rs 5.77 lakhs to Rs 9.6 lakhs for the Polo Petrol.

Vento petrol comes with 1.6l petrol delivering 103 hp and 153 Nm via 5 MT, giving 16 kmpl mileage. Top of the line TSI trim gets 1.2 liter petrol delivering 103 hp and 175 Nm via 7 DCT at 18 kmpl mileage. Diesel Vento is powered by same 1.5 liter engine, seen on Polo. This on Vento delivers 108 hp / 250 Nm. Transmission options include 5 MT or 7 DCT. Mileage is at about 22 kmpl for both. Petrol Vento is priced from Rs 8.7 lakhs to Rs 13 lakhs while diesel Vento is priced from Rs 9.52 lakhs to Rs 14.34 lakhs. All prices are ex-sh.
