JK Tyre and Industries target 20 million production by 2015 end

Last year, JK Tyre was selected for a third consecutive time as a Superbrand. Dr. Raghupati Singhania, Chairman and Managing Director, JK Tyre and Industries was felicitated as on of Asia’s Most Admired Leaders. Part of the Rs 21,000 crore Indian conglomerate, JK Organisation, the tyre entity is a preferred brand by OEMs in India having pioneered radial technology here in 1977, and currently dominating the domestic truck/bus radial tyre segment.

JK Tyre and Industries research and development centres are focused on on developing new value for money products to grow across product segments. In preparation of future growth, JK is expanding capacities, with aim to increase total production to 20 million tyres per annum by 2015 end. Last month the tyre manufacturer inaugurated a JK Tyre Truck Wheels Centre at NH-8, Rewari, Haryana. Jalan Transolutions India is the 15th truck wheel showroom , and first in NCR. The facility is located on the National Highway and and is spread over 25000 square feet. Equipped with nitrogen inflator machine, air compressors, greasing pumps, pneumatic wrenches and a generator set it offers complete truck and bus tyre care. Vikram Malhotra, Marketing Director, JK Tyre and Industries, said Rewari-Dharuhera has its own importance for the trucking business and the region is quickly being radialised, and the centre is expected to be a huge success.

JK Tyre Formula Design Challenge initiative saw 36 shortlisted teams from Indian Engineering institutes compete in their prototype racing cars for tech dominance at Kari Motor Speedway near Coimbatore, between 20- 25 January. The platforms affords to be engineers an intensive and practical experience in designing, manufacturing and testing self-built prototypes. The winner stands a chance to assist professional engineering teams at a JK Tyre and Industries organised motorsport event.

JK Tyre Formula Design Challenge 2015 saw Team Orion Racing of Mumbai’s KJ Somaiya College of Engineering win. Team Formula Manipal (Manipal University) and Pravega Racing (VIT University) were adjudjed second, and third. Designs were evaluated by panellists Ian Thomson, Maria Bonilla-Torres, System Designer for Robert Bosch GmbH and Felix Scherke, Research Engineer at Daimler.

In static events, Orion Racing won Business Plan and Design events. NIT Calicut Team Unwired won the Cost event. In dynamic events, Orion Racing won Endurance and Fuel efficiency events. Manipal University’s Team Formula Manipal won in Acceleration and Skidpad events. Team Octane of COEP Pune won the Autocross event.

Sanjay Sharma, Head-Motorsport, JK Tyre and Industries says with such a large young population and engineering talent, India has the potential to excel in the global automotive engineering scene. Soumya Kanti Bose, convener, JK Tyre Formula Design Challenge 2015 says the event as met with enthusiasm by the Indian student community. The three key events were Auto Cross, Skid Pad and Endurance test on the last day. The event was organised by Delta Inc (run by B.Tech/ BE alumni from engineering colleges across India).
