Jaguar Land Rover plans engine plant in China
Tata Motors owned, Jaguar Land Rover is mulling over a new engine plant in China. This new engine plant is being planned so as to increase their footprint in what is termed as one of the leading auto markets and fastest growing economies in the world. Set-up will commence once the plant in Wolverhampton starts production in 2015.
Jaguar Land Rover new engine plant will be added to their facility in China,\ even prior to the existing plant in Changshu, in Jiangshu Province, coming up as a joint venture project with Chery, gets fully underway. This new plant will produce variants of Range Rover Evoque along with larger Jaguar models exclusively for the Chinese market along with Chery.
The new engine plant, JLR’s first outside the UK, will be constructed at the same site as the upcoming car assembly facility and will go a long way in expanding JLR’s international presence. The new engine plant will also support JLR’s endeavour to increase production capacities two fold to about 600,000 units per annum.
The new JLR engine plant in China will support JLR badged models besides those products being manufactured in China in alliance with Chery. Till such time that the new engine plant in Changshu, China gets underway, engines produced at the company’s Wolverhampton plant will be shipped to China.
