Katherine Legge, Nick Heidfeld and Stephane Sarrazin join 2014 Formula E
British racer Katherine Legge has now been signed as the 1st female driver for 2014 FIA Formula E Championship. She will race for Amlin Aguri Formula E team. Amlin Aguri is yet to announce its 2nd team driver having changed its name from Super Aguri to reflect its sponsorship deal with Amlin.
Working her way up single-seater ranks, in 2005 Katherine competed in 2005 Toyota Atlantic Championship winning the series opener and finishing her season in 3rd place. She also became the first woman to test a Formula 1 car since Sarah Fisher (2002) with Minardi. 2006 Champ Car season saw her become the first woman to lead a lap for the series.
She’s been a DTM series driver with Futurecom TME and Abt Sportsline. In 2012, Legge shifted to US for her IndyCar debut, and later participated in the American Le Mans Series.
This week Venturi announced Nick Heidfeld and Stephane Sarrazin as its team drivers for the FIA Formula E Championship inaugural season, which begins in Beijing on September 13 2014. Heidfeld nor Sarrazin bring with them a range of motorsport experinec including Formula 1, WRC and Le Mans.
Amlin Aguri’s signing sees Katherine Legge join previously confirmed drivers Daniel Abt and Lucas di Grassi at Audi Sport Abt, Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari at Virgin Racing, Bruno Senna and Karun Chandhok at Mahindra Racing, Nick Heidfeld and Stéphane Sarrazin at Venturi, Franck Montagny at Andretti Autosport and Jarno Trulli at TrulliGP.
