KTM 390 Adventure on Duke 390 platform will not come to reality

Launch of a KTM 390 Adventure model was wished for by many around the world, after Stefan Pierer, CEO of KTM, mentioned to Cycle News magazine in April 2013 that a new dual sport model would be produced based on Duke 390 platform.

KTM 390 platformKTM 390 Adventure was expected to be unveiled at 2014 EICMA (Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo Motociclo e Accessori) in Milan or in short the Milan Motor Show. New 390 Adventure was expected to be powered by same 373.2 cc single cylinder water cooled engine producing 44 PS max. power and 35 Nm peak torque, mated to 6 speed manual transmission.

Many graphic artists / auto aficionados came up with rendering as to what KTM 390 Adventure may looks like. Inspiration from KTM 1190 Adventure was seen in those designs and more they came up with, more people wanted that bike to come to reality.

KTM-390-Adventure-RenderingKTM Austria’s Press & PR Coordinator responded to build up and excitement around KTM 390 Adventure by saying to ADV Pulse that: “From a strategical point of view KTM always considers new developments and for this reason: never say no. But currently such models are not foreseen.”

Shattering all hopes on the bike, the quote also suggests that such an Adventure model is not to be seen in future as well. The PR added: “from a technical perspective other versions would require a complete different package. The existing layout can [be] used for Naked and Supersport models.”

If the Duke 390 platform really can’t be used for adventure variants, we can only hope that KTM develops such a model from scratch, now that they know public reception will be good.
