Not 1 but 7 pure electric Land Rover Defender SUVs will grace Geneva 2013
A replacement was expected and that is exactly what Land Rover is coming out with at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show on March 5, 2013. Land Rover presented DC100 Concepts last year and the British manufacturers plan on using this model till their next Defender is ready. 7 pure electric Defender’s will be on display at the Geneva Auto Salon, starting next week. After which, Land Rover plans to test these 7 Defender’s in the real world.
Power to the new electric Defender willl come from a new electric motor, offering 330 Nm and 94 bhp mated to a 300 volt lithium ion battery capable of 27 kWh and offering a driving range of over 80 kms. The batter is capable of lasting 8 hours on a single recharge and can be recharged in a matter of 4 hours via a 7kW fast charger or in 10 hours via a portable 3 kW charger. The electric Defender has been subjected to a series of tests and proved itself capable of pulling a 12 tonne road train up a 13 percent gradient and wading through water at a depth of 800mm.
