It has been confirmed that automatic variant of Mitsubishi Pajero Sport will be introduced into India in August while deliveries are slated to commence in September. Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Automatic will be priced at a premium of INR 1 to 1.5 lakhs more than the current Pajero Sport which is priced at about INR 24 lakh Ex-Delhi.
Hindustan Motors, makers of India’s most iconic Ambassador car, announced suspension of their factory at Uttarpara in West Bengal, bringing production of the iconic Ambassador to a complete halt. HM had been producing the Ambassador at this plant ever since 1957, but have now suspended production citing critical shortage of funds, piling debts and notable lack of demand.
One of the most iconic cars of India, and also the best selling car of the 70′s and 80′s, Ambassador has been killed, most likely forever. Hindustan Motors, a CK Birla Group company, has revealed that they are suspending operations indefinitely at their Uttarpara plant in West Bengal. This was announced to their 2,500 employees who turned in for work on Saturday morning!

This list includes Nissan, Volkswagen, Fiat, Skoda and Hindustan Motors – Mitsubishi. Datsun too features in this list, but as it was just launched, we will not include Datsun in this list. The bottom 5 car makers in India have combined market share of less than 5 percent.
India’s top car manufacturers list for FY 2013/14 unsurprisingly sees Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motor India at top two respectively, and dramatic change in rest 3 positions which is also not a surprise. The list includes Mahindra, Tata and Honda, by overall sales volume in fiscal 2013-14. The next two are Toyota and Ford.
Hindustan Motors (HM), in the throes of suffering losses due to weak demand for its cars such as the Cedia, Outlander and Ambassador all of which are produced from their Uttarpara plant in West Bengal are currently in talks with global automobile companies.
