Local residents were up in arms against the idea of Formula One star Lewis Hamilton taking to the street in Mumbai’s Marine Drive. The spectacular event which was scheduled for Sunday evening which would have seen Lewis Hamilton, currently second in the F1 championship ratings, put up a performance at the “Queen’s Necklace” is forced out of the venue due to complaints from local residents.

Residents claim that allowing such an event to take place will set a precedent for future events and will cause commercial use of the road which will cause more harm than good. The show has now been shifted to a new venue at the Bandra Kurka Complex (BKC) in the northern suburbs of Mumbai. Marine Drive has been in the news for all the wrong reasons.

Major accidents have taken place here while rash driving, speeding and noise pollution is spoiling the peace of the neighborhood according to a signature campaign by local residents who are in the meanwhile, also pushing for UNESCO heritage status for the area. Following these protests, Telecom Company, Vodafone who are hosts of this promotional event have been forced to shift venue and the events will be conducted as planned on September 16, 2012.
